EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

Helping our children start out on a strong foundation is the focus of Franklin Vance Warren Opportunity's Early Childhood Development Services Department. We operate Early Head Start in Henderson, Oxford, Franklinton, Nelson, and the Haliwa Saponi community for children ages 13 months – 35 months. Our Head Start Program operates for children ages 3-5 in our Bunn, Nelson, Franklinton, Henderson, Kittrell, Haliwa, Soul City, Crescent and Oxford sites. FVWOPP will soon launch their new Child Development & Behavioral Clinic.

Franklin Vance Warren Opportunity Inc. Head Start /EHS is funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to provide Head Start and Early Head Start services throughout all of Franklin Vance Warren and Granville Counties. Each year, FVW HS/EHS serves over 400 toddlers, preschoolers, and their families throughout all of Franklin Vance Warren and Granville Counties, including those who are homeless, in foster care, have special needs, are on public assistance, whose family incomes are at or below the federal poverty line, and/or have other high-risk circumstances. We provide comprehensive early education programs for children and their families, with special emphasis on promoting children’s school readiness in the areas of language and cognitive development, early reading, science, mathematics, social skills, health, and physical development in a supportive setting. Parents are empowered as leaders and advocates for their children’s education, families’ success, and betterment of the communities where they live, work and play.

All  9 Franklin Vance Warren Opportunity Head Start Centers are 5-Star rated by the state of North Carolina.

PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES

 

  • Children from birth to age five from families with low income, according to the Poverty Guidelines published by the Federal government, are eligible for Head Start and Early Head Start services.

  • Children are provided with 2 healthy, nutritious meals and an afternoon snack. 

  • Families are also assisted in setting goals and receive assistance with health, employment, housing, transportation and  nutrition services. 

 

  • Health services include medical, dental, mental health and nutrition services to meet the individual needs of preschool children.

 

  • Additional services are provided for children with special needs and disabilities.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Applications for the head start program  are accepted all year long.  

 

  • Children must live in Franklin, Granville, Vance or Warren counties

​​

  • Your child must be between the ages of 3 and 4 to enrolled and attend head start.

  • Parents of children with special needs are encouraged to apply 

​​

  • Schedule a time to meet with Franklin Vance Warren Opportunity to provide the required document listed 

​​

  • Complete an application for the head start program

 

INCOME REQUIREMENTS

 

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is less than or equal to the following amounts defined by the Federal Government:

**Those who do not meet these income requirements are still encouraged to apply.

  • A copy of your child's birth certificate

  • Verification of income 2022

  • A copy of your child’s shot record

  • A copy of your child’s Medicaid card

  • Fill out a client contact form

Circulo de Padres

The relationship between parents and their children has a major influence on most aspects of a child's development.  There are 3  major goals in parenting:  ensuring children’s health and safety, preparing children for life as productive adults and transmitting cultural values. Franklin Vance Warren Opportunity has created the Circle of Parents program to help families create high-quality parent-child relationships that have a positive impact on children's self-esteem, school achievement, development and behavior.

Circle of Parents is a free parent support program offered in Vance County.  This parent support group is for all parents who live in surrounding communities.
