Vance Family Resource Center
Building Stronger Families…Stronger Communities!
The Family Resource Center (FRC) is a comprehensive community center designed around the needs of families in Vance County. Subscribing to the belief that “it takes a village” to raise a child, the FRC partners with parents to develop the strongest families possible – keeping in mind the various definitions of “family” in our community. Through a variety of workshops and enrichment activities, the FRC provides parents with the tools and support necessary to succeed at their most important work…PARENTING!
Current programming available at the FRC includes:
Because children don’t come with instructions, the FRC offers Parenting Wisely, an evidence-based parenting education curriculum. This program is proven to improve parenting skills, reduce child behavior problems and strengthen the relationship between parents and children. Parents can complete the program independently via computer-based sessions or as a part of a group workshop. Individual sessions can be scheduled by calling the FRC at (252) 431-1400. Group workshops are held quarterly. Please contact the FRC for the next scheduled session.
Parents Support Groups
Parent support groups are open to parents, grandparents and other primary caregivers. The monthly meetings provide parents with a forum in which to express their parenting challenges and concerns, to give and receive support and encouragement from other parents, and to receive additional life skills to benefit them as individuals and as parents. Meetings are conducted by trained FRC staff and often feature area professionals with expertise in areas of interest to participating parents. Childcare and refreshments are provided at these meetings. Please contact the FRC at (252) 431-1400 for a meeting schedule.
Family Enrichment Activities
The FRC hosts periodic family enrichment activities designed to provide families with an outlet to experience quality time together. Whether it’s bowling, dinner & a movie, family game nights, or picnics in the park, both parents and children benefit from the positive interaction with one another and other families. For more information, please call the FRC at (252) 431-1400.
